- The pronouns and ages listed are those of the characters.
THOMAS – He/Him, any ethnicity
Mid-30’s to Mid-50’s
Thomas is sharp-witted, fiercely opinionated, and deeply passionate about pop culture and Princess Diana. Uses humour a bit like a shield. Though he can be intimidating and aloof, at his core, he longs for connection. He is the longest-standing member of Casey House.
** ATP & The Citadel encourage actors from the LGBTQ+ community to submit for this role.
PRINCESS DIANA – She/her, caucasian
30’s
Compassionate, warm, charismatic, and thoughtful. A courageous humanitarian, who listens attentively. The beloved People’s Princess.
VERA – She/her, any ethnicity
Mid-20’s – mid 50’s.
A highly skilled and dedicated nurse at Casey House. A leader. Fiercely protective of the hospice and its clients. Working diligently to provide a stable atmosphere, even as Diana’s upcoming visit stirs excitement.
MARJORIE – She/her, any ethnicity
Late 40’s – mid-70’s
Volunteer. Very invested. Maternal energy but with a rebellious streak. She is an enthusiastic ally. In her grief, she sometimes blurs professional boundaries. Positive, hopeful, lighthearted.
ANDRE – He/him, any ethnicity
Mid to late 20’s
A brand new resident to Casey House. Thomas’ roommate. Struggling and isolated, he is new to Toronto and estranged from his family. Overwhelmed by grief and declining health, he wrestles with alienation, often reacting with anger and resistance.
** ATP & The Citadel encourage actors from the LGBTQ+ community to submit for this role.
PAULINE – She/her, any ethnicity
Early 30’s to late 40’s
Thomas’ sister. Headstrong and opinionated. Was once an important part of Thomas’ social circle. Overwrought with grief and fear, she is often aggressive, but deep down has the capacity for compassion and change.
EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION COMMITMENTS
ALBERTA THEATRE PROJECTS (Calgary)
Alberta Theatre Projects believes in a work environment free of discrimination and harassment in which individuals can showcase their true selves during the creative process. We are committed to reflecting the diversity of our community and promoting equity and inclusion. We welcome submissions from all qualified individuals regardless of gender, age, or race, and encourage applications from artists who are Indigenous, Black, or People of Colour, as well as those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, Disabled/People with Disabilities, and/or Neuro-Divergent. We are ready to assist in overcoming any potential barriers (language, disability, or any other considerations) preventing you from applying to audition, and will work with you to establish a process that is suitable for you.
In the spirit of reconciliation, ATP acknowledges that we live, work, and create on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation of Alberta (districts 5 and 6), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. They were the original occupants of this land and continue to be here to this day. We are grateful to have the opportunity to present in this territory.
Accessibility: The audition, rehearsal, and performance spaces for this production are accessible via multiple elevators from within the Arts Commons. Some entrances to the Arts Commons, including Stage Door, require steps; to coordinate access to the space through an accessible entrance, please contact Megan Jovie at auditions@atplive.com. Artists cast in this production will not require staff assistance to enter rehearsal or performance spaces. The dressing room washrooms are not fully accessible, and require a small step to access the showers. For any questions about access needs, please reach out to Megan Jovie at auditions@atplive.com.
THE CITADEL THEATRE (Edmonton)
The Citadel Theatre is in the heart of amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton, AB), and we are proud to call Treaty 6 territory home. As a regional theatre, it is integral that we ensure that the stories we tell, as well as the composition of our artists, board, staff, students, and audience are reflective of the diverse lived experiences in this dynamic city. We encourage submissions from professional artists who self-identify as members of under-represented communities. For more on Citadel Theatre’s Equity, Inclusivity, and Diversity commitments, please visit: https://citadeltheatre.com/about-us/equity-diversity-inclusion-and-accessibility/.
If there are any potential barriers (language, disability, access need, or any other considerations) preventing you from applying to audition please let us know and we will collaborate with you to find solutions.
Accessibility: Citadel Theatre’s rehearsal facilities are fully accessible. Our building is equipped with elevators and numerous accessible washrooms. The Maclab Theatre stage and backstage areas currently have reduced accessibility to artists that have mobility access needs. The Maclab is a unique thrust stage with multiple stairs, risers, and steep ramp entrances and the backstage area does not currently have accessible washrooms or dressing rooms; we are working to correct these issues in the space and are very open to discussing potential workarounds and solutions. Please let us know if you have any questions about the physical layout of our spaces, or other access needs.
